ChronoRadio: Joe Corroney The latest in ChronoRadio’s interview series features and interview with artist Joe Corroney. So who is Joe Corroney and how well does Nathan interview him? Joe Corroney As we find out during the interview, Joe has worked extensively in the Star Wars universe on such things as: Insider; Gamer; numerous Star Wars Role Playing Game (RPG) sourcebooks; and the Episode II website HolonetNews.com. Outside of Star Wars, he has worked on numerous White Wolf sourcebooks as well as Marvel’s Crimson Dynamo. A few interesting facts brought out during the interview: Joe Corroney is a Star Wars fan, front and center, and enjoys working in any time period and on any subject matter in the Star Wars universe. His artwork for the RPG led to his being hired to do art for HolonetNews.com. Much of the art he has worked on in Star Wars is supposed to be very realistic and often photo referenced. He enjoys working on these projects, which are tied to the movies. However, this often leads to a blending of people and places carried over from the films with those who are not. The tricky part is making non-photo referenced characters match up in detail and quality with those who are. He has a harder time with streamlined or smooth persons (Padme, Anakin, or Wookiees) than rougher individuals (Qui-Gon or Yoda). He has recently completed doing 1000 sketch cards for Topps Trading Cards' Clone Wars set and is set to work on their Star Wars Heritage trading card set, which will include all six movies. His website is: www.joecorroney.com. Nathan Butler Nathan Butler did a very competent job asking the basic questions you would expect in a 20 minute interview with an artist. At least, I am pretty sure he did, based on Joe Corroney’s answers, which leads me to my complaint for this interview: sound quality. There is a marked sound quality difference between Nate’s questions and Joe’s answers, with us being able to easily understand the answers, but often having to crank the volume to get the questions. Also, as is often the case with live on-location interviews, there is a high amount of background noise (muffled talking, walking, phones ringing, etc.). Overall A good interview of an artist that is dragged down by the distractions from the sound problems. I would have to give this one a C. ChronoRadio |
